I can TELL Paolini's trying to push my buttons with this character and it's pissing me off.
That could be it. And he's not even funny or cute. I don't even remember most of his lines (or any of his lines) really. (And his backstory where something OMG Terrible happened seemed suspiciously like Falconi pressed him into service or something.)
And not for the first time. Paolini is following his usual habit of introducing something he tells you is horribly dangerous and then not letting it actually, y'know, DO anything.
As always, you're left asking "What was the point of that?" And nobody close ever gets hurt. Hell, it's not even the named Redshirts, it's the nameless redshirts.
