Acting under the assumption that book two is even going to happen is both arrogant and unprofessional. And it's just plain bad writing.
That happens a lot in movies, too. Most notably Amazing Spider Man 2, and The Mummy (2017). They crammed so many things in there trying to set up a universe that they forgot to tell a good story in the first installment.
It clutters up the story and distracts from the plot.
Personally, I think they're just throwing his garbage out there on a budget in order to make a quick buck.
