I think I know which retcon you mean. I was quite annoyed at that one. I think it took away from the characters.
I hated the way the character and his dragon were described, which was in a really condescending, nasty way complete with mocking the dragon's wimpy colour.
My headcanon is that Saerlith was a shy, sweet gay boy who dearly loved his puce coloured dragon, and that they put up with the constant bullying they were subjected to with quiet dignity until another young Rider and dragon stuck up for them. I think you can guess who, and I fully intend to include all of the above in the next instalment of "Before The Shadow". If I ever get back to writing the damn thing.
Also, "puce" will forever make me think of Monsters, Inc.
