Why does Kiragon instantly assume it's unfixable?

There's nothing like a little agency in your protagonists, is there. The only thing that happens of note is meeting Tschetter and the Jellies, but that could be put somewhere else. And this book is so boring that I can't even remember most of it, besides the disappointing ending, the beginning events, and her meeting Falconi and a couple of battle. That's ALL. In a 300,000 word book. A work this big should leave you with something. Some feelings besides boredom, disappointment, and the occasional anger. I forgot about the cliche "Kira saves a kid" because it was one more boring moment in a boring book.

But woe betide if I try to have a nap when I have something my subconscious thinks is more important on my plate, because then I have stressful and upsetting dreams which seem designed to wake me up. People yelling at me, that sort of thing. It's so annoying.

Oh yeah. If I'm stressed or depressed for a while, my nightmare frequency will really increase. I once had a nightmare where Death was a woman who appeared at doors, then abducted people and flew away with them.
