Dragons in fantasy (and why I like them)

Hello everybody. I am here to talk to you about one of the topics that interests me when it comes to fantasy.
It is quite clear that dragons are one of the many most over exploited creatures in the genre, and it is usually the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the word "fantasy"; but why do we like them? Is there something attractive about them that makes us fall in love with them, so to speak?
I would say that I am a fantastic dragon, (that's why I decided to add dragons in my book, by the way) which is not surprising, and one of the things I like the most about them is their beauty and power. Because, come on, not every day you usually come across giant reptiles that breathe fire, they are invulnerable above all else and can fly wherever they want and do whatever they want; Nobody tells a dragon what to do, he does it, period.
It's a bit difficult for me to explain, and I really don't want to end up sounding pretentious like a certain person who claims to "dream" about dragons, but well, that appeals to me.
What do you think? Do you agree with me or do you think there will be another reason?
