Stopped by Paolini's TwitterX and came across this.

EDIT: Realised there's some extra text I missed, so here's the rest of it:

"(We proceeded to geek out about the need for radiators on spaceships.)"

I find this claim highly questionable at best. Even more so when he was conveniently unable to provide any details.

Something to do with meteoric metal being used to make a sword, which is an idea that has been done before many, MANY times, eh?

Yeah, I don't believe him, and if this really is just a straight-up lie it's really really gross.

This was originally a much longer post but the formatting wouldn't work (seems DW had a glitch) and I gave up in frustration and didn't realise it hadn't saved the draft either.

As I am now annoyed I'll just keep it short and to the point: does anybody here have even the first clue what the hell "eat the path" is supposed to mean? I originally pasted in some theories I found elsewhere but the "blockquote" and "quote" tags weren't working. Bah.

UPDATE: I found the text from the original version of this post! Though the formatting still isn't working, nor can I change the font size. FFS, DW.

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell Angela's latest stupid catchphrase is supposed to mean. The one Kiragon found so meaningful it informed whatever her character arc was supposed to be.
According to google:

<blockquote>Near the beginning of the book, a character tells Kira to “eat the path” – basically, she means, that only through owning and accepting her actions can she overcome her circumstances"</blockquote>

According to UrbanDictionary:

<blockquote>
Do the unexpected. Often given as advice to someone who is pursuing an undesirable goal."Cross over the cell bars, find a new maze, make the maze from it's path, find the cell bars, cross over the bars, find a maze, make the maze from its path, eat the food, eat the path."

or

An exclamation of contempt, somewhat like "eat shit". Comes from level 17 of the game Marathon Infinity, titled "Eat The Path"This dude was being all lame in Starcraft, so I told him to eat the path, and he got mad and quit.

Remember how at the end of To Sleep, Kira creates a magical gift for Trig, which is a "Staff of Green" that can magically make plants grow anywhere?
 (Part 3, Chapter 6: Decession)

I was watching a playthrough of the classic 2008 PC video game Spore, about evolving a species of creature through various evolutionary stages.

In the final stage, the Space Stage, if you make it all the way to the Galactic Core without dying you meet an alien named Steve, who gives you the Staff of Life: A magical tool that instantly terraforms any planet you use it on, and grows plants on it.

It could just be a coincidence, but at this stage I don't give Paolini a single shred of benefit of the doubt when it comes to coincidences from popular media.

So, after having previously read some extracts and gone through the sporks on here a couple of times, I finally was able to sit down and read through To Sleep in a Sea of Stars in its entirety for the first time! My conclusion… it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever read (then again, with some of the stuff I’ve been sporking lately, the bar for that is very low) but it’s sure as hell not good either. I thought I’d write up some of my thoughts about the whole thing; this isn’t supposed to be a detailed review, just a sort of checklist of some of the things going through my mind as I was reading.

During an idle moment today I started to re-read some old sporks, including this one of an interview Paolini gave before To Toss In A Bin of Garbage came out

Other than very ill-advisedly talking shit about FOX in public, he also talked about what the themes of his new book were supposed to be and I thought it would be interesting to have another look at it now we've actually read/sporked said book.

It’s difficult because the themes that I see in my book may not be the themes that readers get out of it. I don’t want to prejudice people against the book or for the book by saying things that may or may not be there. But…it’s a lot of the things that I’ve always been obsessed with as a writer. So questions of loyalty and responsibility. Questions of the relationship of an individual to the larger society. Also questions of bodily anatomy, and how do you mentally deal with it when your body isn’t the way you want it to be, whether because of choices you’ve made already, or external forces. You know, how do you deal with that, and how do you move forward and grow from that. Also, in some ways the destructiveness of anger is a bit of a theme. But overall, I’m trying to tell a good, fun, and entertaining story that will hopefully touch people in the same way that the Inheritance Cycle has. You know I certainly had some big themes in the Inheritance Cycle, but I was always focused too on tying that into a story that people would actually enjoy.

Hoo boy, where does one even begin?

He also whines about how FOX owns all the merchandising and film rights to the Cycle, which leads me to wonder why he doesn't just buy said rights back if he doesn't think they're going to do anything with them.

And with this, we're finally, FINALLY, done with this book. Get ready for another absolutely useless piece and an absolute waste of everyone's time.

In other words, the vocabulary list of the words we may or may not have encountered during this book. I still don’t understand why vocabulary lists are in the books like this, and I can’t say I’ve ever understood it. As far as I can remember, Paolini’s books are the only books where I’ve seen lists like this, and aside from the listing of the Urgal, ancient language, and dwarvish words in the Inheritance Cycle, it just makes me feel like he’s questioning my ability to remember his characters and places. It ended up being so huge that I have to post it in 6 parts, otherwise it'll be too huge and annoying to read through in one sitting. Also, you'll notice that of the 26 letters of the alphabet, only 24 are actually used.

Anyway, let’s get started... black ink will be the actual entry while
blue ink will be my commentary.

So I decided to do this part in addition to the vocabulary and timeline because nobody else had done it and I don’t really want to call something “complete” when one part is technically missing. So here we go. Buckle up, it’s going to be an annoyingly bumpy ride.

The last chapter. Hallelujah. Thank every single deity. Our collective suffering is almost over.

This entire chapter was exhausting.

Last time we checked, Kira ascended to Ultimate Goddess Kira and created this whole living space station. Now, Ultimate Goddess Kira—

You know what, I’m the only carrier of the ‘ultimate’ title. Enlightened Kira sees the ships and invites everyone in. The Jelly ship is Swift Currents under Silent Waves, which again, I wonder how that’s translated. In Paolini’s favor, it is something to do with the sea, though. Better than Battered Hierophant at the very least.
