In a great setting, extra things like this add to the world and make it feel bigger. There are hidden stories in the lore, like the An-Xileel Daedric resistance in Elder Scrolls. Paolini makes his world feel smaller by adding in so many details, but not really having much cause, effect or intrigue in any of them.
