I'm finding it doubly amusing because I actually wrote - years ago - about a member of the high nobility who is passing himself off as a commoner. He's completely changed his appearance, yet gets found out anyway. Why? Because he still talks and carries himself like a nobleman who is accustomed to being obeyed rather than some nobody from off the street. He literally cannot hide that because he doesn't realise it himself until somebody outright tells him so. "You look like a commoner but you have the manners of a high noble."
Unless Morontagh has some training as an actor or something, there's no way in hell his stupid "peasant voice" is even halfway convincing, and no doubt he has the same "air of a nobleman" thing going on as well. He doesn't even think to explain where he got that fancy mail armour. Why aren't they accusing him of having stolen it if they seriously believe his obviously made up on the spot bullshit story?
