After all this time it's finally here, and the cover looks like a diseased vagina. ...hooray?

So, erm, is there any reason why it's a pomegranate? I don't think there will be, anyway. It'll probably be like the apple.

I heard that what kind of fruit it was is unconfirmed. People just went with the apple as the popular interpretation.

In all honesty, if the relationship was described as abusive or something that was imprisoning Bella, I actually would have found it fairly decent. But right now, it's just there just cause.

Even with that in mind, the cover is boring. It feels rather bare-bone to me, and there's nothing about it that draws my eye. I wished they settled on something that was more dynamic, or something that was more telling of the book.

Yeah, apparently, and I’m not sure about this, but it seems that forbidden fruit got conflated with the apples of the Hesperides at some point.

And it's pretty interesting to know that civilization use the same ideas in their stories. The way that Achilles and Siegfried gain their invincibility was something that struck out in my mind.

Good grief, is meyer trying to scare away what is left of her fan base with the ugliest book cover imaginable? Did she ask for the worst picture of a pomegranate that one could find? I know you are not supposed to judge a book by it's cover but if this is any indication of what's on the inside, i feel for the fans that waited 10+ years for this book.

As far as I've read the original forbidden fruit is left completely unspecified in any sources. However Jesus did condemn figs trees for eternity because him and his followers were hungry one day and there was a fig tree on the road that didn't have any figs on it.

Looking good in paintings does account for a shocking number of perceived biblical cannon. As does being in Dante's Inferno or Paradise Lost. Though Apples do apparently come from central Asia, and Eden is considered as existing to the East, which would put it round about central Asia. so not utterly impossible (though of course East of the westernmost part of the Middle East could just be a bit further into the east of the Middle East too).

The pomegranate likely refers to Persephone from Greek mythology eating pomegranate seeds to stay in the underworld. The apple is a reference to Eve becoming sinful, just like Bella is tating the forbidden fruit by getting into bed with vampires.

EDIT: Ah, I see I'm late to the party here. THat's what happens when you open a page the night before and don't refresh it.

How bad can it be?

*Surprised pikachu face*

So, uh...do you think her writing improved at all? Or does it still give the impression of a disinterested weather forecaster giving the weekly weather?

well, since one definition of scribe is someone who copies documents and midnight sun is supposed to be twilight from eddie's point of view, maybe the journalist meant there will be a lot of copy and paste from twilight to midnight sun just like she did with life and death.

Ugh. Is this what "professional" journalism looks like? Spork time.

oh, eww. That's hideous. Whoever designed that should be fired. Or at least the publisher should get a refund.

It reminds me of a Charlie Pickering stand-up routine about foreign correspondent journalists. "... the diseased fruit of war is proving more and more difficult to turn into the jam of peace"

If ever there was a diseased fruit, that looks like it.

The picture was so ugly my eyes kept skipping from the image. But when I forced myself to look: it kinda resembles a crying skull if you squint?

We can see two eye sockets, then the line of pomegranates represents tears - or a nose and the drips represent tears or blood. They have pulled apart that top section, which may suggest eyebrows? I don't know.

I just hate that stem on top of the pomegranate. This image is so disturbing. Why would they put an image on the cover that would actively make people hesitate to pick up the book?

I think it's supposed to be a crushed/broken pomegranate for extra symbolism, but it was about as a good idea as the Twilight series. :/ They should have just bought a pomegranate and ran it over. It couldn't possibly look worse. Also, the symbolism would stand out, rather than the initial "Ew, what it that?".

Why would they put an image on the cover that would actively make people hesitate to pick up the book?

Probably because whoever decided on the image read the series and thought it was a horror series. I've read through most of Mervin's spork on Das Sporking, and there's enough stuff in Meyer's stuff that have a better fit for horror than romance. Everything from Jacob's assault on Bella to Renesme's birth... Imagine, if the Pomegranate is the series, then the seeds are every morally wrong scene, and the oozing juice the rancid logic that keeps it all together.

Rotting, smashed, and leaking. A perfect metaphor of an image if I've ever seen one.

Well, color me surprised. She might actually get some of her fans back with this... or she might alienate them forever, because Edward is still an abusive asshole and we live in a #MeToo world now.
