So, just searching the web, having a good time, and then I found this...

twitter.com/paolini/status/1284983028893184001

Just in case you can't see it, Paolini has published a novella set in the Fractalverse.

And, from r/Eragon reddit forum:
www.reddit.com/r/Eragon/comments/hu05h9/christopher_paolini_has_written_two_more_books_in/

He's also written a prequel novel.

The thing is, he's relying on name recognition to sell To Sleep, so these all hinge on the sucess of that. Furthermore, we all know what happened last time he tried to write a novella (this one is only 60 pages, so without the padding, it's probably only the length of a short story) Cough*Workfork book* Cough.

Also, why is he writing Fractalverse novels when IC fans are clamboring for Book Five? This proves that he has absolutely no plan for it, and that Book Five will probably never happen.

Anyway, we'll have lots of material to spork.

Will be interesting to see if he completely abandons Inheritance if the Fractalverse is at least semi-successful. People are allowed to get new interests.

Who knows? If people like something, they’ll often be willing to wait for more of it. I mean, this place is still here, right?* Why would their staying power be any less than yours?

*that is to say, this community has eagerly awaited everything he’s published since his first book, so they can shred it. Likewise, his fans have waited for nearly a decade now for more from him, and now he’s producing—which is what they want.

They absolutely are. For his sake, however, he needs to bite the bullet and just give them book 5. Otherwise the longer he puts it off, the longer he puts other things before it, the more he risks losing his most passionate core fans.

On one hand... at least fans of To Sleep won't be waiting 9 years or more for the next bit of content?

I beleive his average rate of release is what was between the IC books. After the fourth he did say he was taking a break for some time.

So more like 3 to 4 years? That's still a long time between books. I feel like he should already have a buffer of a few books ready to go before announcing a long-running series with no upper limits.

I don't blame Paolini wanting to distance himself from the Inheritance cycle. It was more or less foisted upon him by his parents and it felt like a job he wasn't having fun with and couldn't wait to leave it behind. It must be a drag being unable to tell people he has no interest in writing Book 5 and instead chooses to string them along that he'll consider it...eventually.

TSiaSoS is just as flat as the rest of the books after Eragon, though. If we're using a sense of joy in the prose as a measure of whether or not he's having fun then I'm not convinced this book wasn't as much of a job as the rest of the IC.
