Will this be used for Brother Hern? Or for one of the other authors quoted from in the book?
Christopher Paolini @paolini
Nope. It's literally my author portrait for the book.

Are you canon in the WoE? Are we breaking the fourth wall?

Christopher Paolini @paolini
I am the Namer of Names. It is impossible for me NOT to be canon.

How would you say that in the ancient language?

Honestly, in fantasy series, it just feels right for the author to be 'canon' in some way. Now the interesting question is if anyone in WoE is aware of the nature of the Namer of Names, and what such knowledge might imply for them.
Meme:
Black Knight and King Arthur from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Black Knight says "I am the Namer of Names"; Arthur says "You're a looney".
Well, I don't have much to say to this, other to echo your reaction.
How does the saying go? You can get older but you can't grow up? This is incredibly pretentious on his part and incredibly egotistical. Of course, his rabid fans are going to eat this up and think it's awesome. But could you imagine any of his contemporaries trying this bullcrap? They'd be laughed out of the office.
It was my pleasure! (And if I'm correct, Paolini is about twice my age by now, and yet I don't think you'll see me come up with stuff like that now... It's a striking contrast.)
I could swear the guy has actually become LESS mature over the years. As in even more immature than he was back when he was claiming to be "a very silly person" while chatting with his pal Sanderson.
I am the Namer of Names? Paolini, why stop there? I am the Writer of Fools would be more accurate! And if the writer must be in canon, I am sure there is an opening for I am the Jester of Court! And Pig Latin could be the name of the ancient language. Shouldn't there be a pig roasting on a spit in the background of Sir Loin of Beef's portrait?
Back in the day, after Anne Rice had that very public and very embarrassing meltdown over people not liking her stupid book Blood Canticle, her own critics called her "her own big name fan". Seems Paolini's gone down the same route.

Once again I have to pause and remind myself that not only is Paolini not twelve, or a teenager, but OLDER THAN ME.
OLDER. By several years.
