If you're not subscribed to the dw_maintenance channel, you might not have seen that Dreamwidth will be intermittently down over the next week or so.

This is due to a migration of all DW data and servers away from Cloudflare hosting, in line with the ethical guidelines of Dreamwidth's development and maintenance team.

The downtimes shouldn't last very long, and the interference shouldn't go on for more than a week on the outside, but this message is just so you know to expect it.

See you in the soup, as my family says to each other when our mutual schedules aren't predictable.

Hi everyone,

In case you haven't seen it yet, Dreamwidth has updated comment formatting options to make it easier.

When you are making a comment, there should be a drop-down box where you can select "casual HTML", "markdown", or "raw HTML" as your comment formatting type.

I am extremely exited that Dreamwidth is now supporting Markdown, because it is so simple to use and remember.

The full Markdown system is here: https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax but for the sake of brevity here are the most common ones you'll use.

Text formatting:

Italic text: one asterisk on either side of text: *italic* displays as italic

Bold text: two asterisks on either side of the text: **bold** displays as bold

Links:

Inline: link text in square brackets, URL in rounded brackets: [HERE](https://www.google.com)

Link by itself: angle brackets: <https://www.google.com>

Block quotes: use closed angle bracket at the start of each line

> like so, and
> multiple lines
>
> as necessary

Line divider:

Three or more asterisks, with blank line before & after. Markdown:

***

Images:

![Alt text](/path/to/img.jpg)

As you can see, this is a whole lot easier than remembering HTML codes. Just remember to choose "Markdown" as your comment formatting option above the new comment text box.

I understand that everybody's feeling tense at the moment what with the sorry state the world is in right now, which might be why several fights have broken out in the comments section recently. However, in order to keep this place together it's time I reminded you all that there are certain rules you're expected to follow if you want to participate in this community.

1. No personal attacks

I don't care if someone has annoyed you by disagreeing with you; you do not resort to calling them names or otherwise trying to piss them off.

2. No hate speech

And you especially do not resort to using hateful slurs.

4. No trolling

If you have a disagreement with someone, be graceful about it. You are not going to change anybody's mind by becoming aggressive and rude. If you feel someone is being needlessly antagonistic towards you, just say so and keep it polite. If someone's being unreasonable toward you, walk away.

The anon who repeatedly broke all three of the above rules is now officially on notice and will not be allowed to comment further. If this sort of behaviour persists from anonymous commenters, we will be forced to disable anonymous commenting altogether, which I would rather not have to resort to.

Come on, guys. We can do better than this.

I love posts that attempt to fix some aspect of the story, worldbuilding, or characterisation. What if actions had consequences? What if thr soldiery of the varden could think for themselves and resented the favoritism shown to Roran? What if the magic system wasn't irredeemably broken?

Especially ones that go into some detail about how the story might unfold given these fixes.

To encourage more of them, and find them again later, I've made a new tag, Fix-it Felix. Because Wreck-It Ralph is awesome.

I'm not sure whether fanfics fit into this tag, but there's nothing stopping you from using multiple tags

Hi everyone,

First off, I just want to say how happy and excited I am that so many of Anti_shurtugal's best contributors have migrated over to this new group. We're now 21 strong, and certainly in my opinion it's 21 of the finest posters, sporkers, critics and literary analysts etc. the old Antishurtugal.livejournal group had to offer.

Regarding old content, essays and so on in the Livejournal archives, please feel free to repost whatever and as much as you want (of your own work). Nobody here knows what Hackslayer is going to do with the group except that she's banned all members from posting and that she has a strong opinion that A_S is obsolete and should be allowed to die. I seriously wouldn't put it past Madam I-Care-About-My-Legacy to delete the group entirely and purge the archives.

So if you have any essays, articles, sporks, or think-pieces that you are particularly fond of, please do repost them here.

And if you want any new tags, just let myself, Epistler or Anya know and we'll get on it ASAP.
