Nasuada is the next Galbatorix
Think about it. After there’s an entire revolution against a tyrannical king, they just reinstate the monarchy and Nasuada starts a turn towards authoritarianism. She puts complete surveillance on magic users, she is furious when Eragon refuses to serve under her, and gives Orrin just a few cities in exchange for everything Surda has done to help the Varden. She’s going to be the next Galbatorix.
A couple of people are chalking this up to Christopher's brilliance rather than his just not thinking it through. The way the book was written, it did seem like this was supposed to be a rather happy ending.

Date: 2021-05-11 12:39 am (UTC)It seems like a bunch of them are getting bored at the fact that nothing's being updated in the IC. (And FWW seemed to have made a microscopic splash.) In the recent AMA, there were like literally eight Space Brick questions, and the rest were about the IC. (And half of the former were how it ties to the IC.)
All I've seen is some reviews of the Storm Dragons series is accusations of Eragon acting OOC, but that's it.
I wonder what they would think about a spitefic that changes canon, though?

When the character is a main character, it's the audience's natural tendency to sympathize with them. (Like in "Breaking Bad".) People who like the books follow this tendency, since everything's justified in Eragon's mind. When they see the perspective from people who aren't Eragon, it gets more apparent.

Date: 2021-05-13 10:20 pm (UTC)Well, and the guy playing him is handsome - no point in pretending that's not a factor.
And white, male characters get more leeway. There's also a tendency to empathize with the main character. (See how Skylar White got undeserved hate.)
Stalking, breaking and entering, theft of personal information and multiple murders were all excused away with "But he's in love!"
Christ. Yeah, as if Loooveee is always the answer. (And that message is crammed everywhere.)
In the end the actor who played him came out and made a public statement that "my character is NOT a good guy, what's wrong with you?" but I doubt it made much difference.
Ugh. I can't believe that was necessary.
