"Big Announcement!"

Nearly six months after the "big announcement" was supposedly imminent, someone finally just asked.



Translation: it ain't happening. I'll bet that "inner fourteen-year-old jumping up and down just screaming with glee" has stopped screaming by now. Or at least he ain't screaming with smug excitement. 

Womp womp. Let us all mourn for the glorious trainwreck that could have been.

Okay, as much as I dread to be sensible about this, shows take time to make. Like, a lot of time if there's CGI and historic set pieces involved. Even more so right now with some pretty big negotiations about AI going on in Hollywood and with liveaction Disney in general. It might still happen but if it doesn't, it'll probably disappear into the background.

True, but even with big productions like that we generally get some casting announcements and know who the director/showrunner is going to be. Those are some of the first things to get announced before production really gets into gear. With this alleged production, we don't even have a named showrunner; something Paolini was talking about very early on in terms of "once we have a showrunner..."
No showrunner, no cast, nobody attached other than him? Even if Paolini's not talking about it, Disney would have said something by now. I just checked the IMDB, and the page for it is completely blank. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21368612/

It's been about two years, which is about the same time it took them to announce the director for Murderbot Diaries. Wicked took about six years for them to decide on a director. There are a lot of moving parts at play for a TV show. It might be stuck in development hell, it might be moving along at an abysmal pace due to two strikes. I'm not going to assume it's going to happen, but I'm not going to write it off until they officially cancel it.

Maybe I shouldn't have said fuck it and eaten the popcorn I was saving.

And if you're right, Paolini really shouldn't have run his mouth off like that. I mean you'd think he'd learn, considering.

Mind you, an important factor to consider here is that they'd be working with Paolini. You know, the guy who eats editors for breakfast and isn't going to allow any changes to his precious "canon". I'd be surprised if anyone in Hollywood wanted to touch him with a bargepole.

Imdb puts up pages based on rumours and gossip.

Some minor celebrity could say "I heard that so-and-so will be directing the Iguana Boy movie" at a conference autograph line and Imdb would have a page up for the movie the next day.

Instead... tumbleweed and crickets. And why would Disney be keeping it all so secret if stuff IS happening? That's not how you hype up a show. Where's the lead actors doing panels at ComicCon to talk about the project? A progress report at the very least? I've never known any big studio not to do that sort of thing ASAP once the "big announcement" has been made.

Sounds to me like that "big contract" Paolini said was being negotiated did not in fact end up being signed. And I can't imagine what (or rather who) could have caused whoever the other party was to say "no thanks" and walk away from the table. *whistles innocently*
